CRS Essay/Theory Answers 2026/2027

Question 1: The Crossing of the Red Sea

(1a)
Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt into the Promised Land of Canaan. Pharaoh pursued them with his army and chariots, overtaking them at Pi-hahiroth. God instructed Moses to stretch his staff over the sea, and a strong east wind parted the waters, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry land. When the Egyptians pursued, God confused their army, clogging their chariot wheels. Moses stretched his hand again, and the sea returned, drowning Pharaoh’s army. Witnessing this miracle, the Israelites trusted God and Moses, and they sang a song of praise to the Lord.

(1b)

  • Christians should learn never to doubt God in difficult situations.

  • Christians should always obey God’s instructions and follow His messengers.

Question 4: Amos and Amaziah

(4a)
Amos prophesied against Israel, declaring that God would rise against the house of Jeroboam II with the sword. Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, reported Amos’ prophecy to King Jeroboam II, accusing Amos of conspiracy. He told Amos to flee to Judah and prophesy there, but Amos responded that he was not a prophet by profession—he was called by God. Amos then declared God’s judgment on Amaziah: his wife would become a harlot, his children would die by the sword, and Israel would go into exile.

(4b)

  • People oppose God because of pride and refusal to submit to Him.

  • Some oppose God due to ignorance of His will.

  • Many resist God out of selfish interests and fears.

Question 5: Jesus Before the Sanhedrin

(5a)
After Jesus’ arrest in Gethsemane, He was brought before Caiaphas, the high priest, where the Sanhedrin assembled. They sought false testimony to condemn Him but found none until two witnesses claimed He threatened to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. Jesus remained silent until asked directly if He was the Son of God. He affirmed it, and the high priest declared it blasphemy, concluding that Jesus should be put to death.

(5b)

  • People bear false witness because of jealousy.

  • Others lie for personal gain or to win favor.

Question 7: Stephen’s Defense (Acts 7:2–53)

(7a)
Stephen was accused of blasphemy and apostasy. In his defense, he recounted Israel’s history, showing his faith in Abraham’s covenant and Joseph’s trials, highlighting God’s grace. He reminded the Jews of their ancestors’ sins and their constant rejection of God’s messengers—just as they had rejected Christ.

(7b)
Stephen’s defense teaches Christians to follow God’s guidance, honor His promises, and remain steadfast in faith even when opposed.

Question 9: Peter’s Instructions to Christians Among Non-Christians

(9a)
Peter urged Christians to abstain from sinful desires that harm the soul and to live honorably so non-believers would glorify God through their good works. He encouraged submission to authority as a testimony of faith, living as free people yet serving God. He also emphasized honoring everyone, loving fellow believers, fearing God, and honoring the emperor. Christians were reminded to endure suffering for doing good, just as Christ did.

(9b)

  • Disobedience to God’s commands.

  • Sinful lifestyle.

  • Lack of faith in God’s promises.

Extra Essay (Expanded Answer to Question 1: The Crossing of the Red Sea)

When Pharaoh released the Israelites, God did not lead them through the shorter Philistine route but through the desert road to the Red Sea. By day, God guided them with a pillar of cloud, and by night, with a pillar of fire. They camped at Pi-hahiroth as instructed. Pharaoh pursued with his army, but Moses assured the Israelites to trust in God. At God’s command, Moses raised his staff, and the Red Sea parted. The Israelites crossed on dry ground, while the Egyptians followed and were destroyed when the waters returned.
